Water Leaks
A plumbing emergency can cause real damage to your home- so what do you do if you have a leaking or burst pipe?
- If you suspect a water leak contact us as soon as possible.
- If you have a leaking or burst pipe, locate your stop cock and turn off the water immediately.
- Stop cocks are often under the kitchen sink, but it could be elsewhere so it is a good idea to locate it before an emergency.
What causes burst pipes and leaks?
- Water pressure- if a pipe, toilet or water pump becomes clogged it can increase the water pressure. This can result in the pipes expanding, cracking and bursting. If you think there is a blockage in your home contact us to have a look.
- Cold temperatures- When pipes freeze, the water in them expands which can cause them to crack or burst. To prevent this give us a call and we can lag the pipework.
How to spot a leak?
Leaking pipes are not always obvious, but a leak can cause unseen damage and increase your bills.
- Take regular meter readings which helps you spot an increase in your usage which could be a leak.
- Look out for lower water pressure or flow from your taps.
- Take note of waterlogged areas in your garden- this could be a sign of a leak.
- Get us to check any noisy pipework, as it could be a leak.
